Hanley Grange may be 10,000 Houses

Developers behind Hanley Grange, the Eco Town proposed between Sawston and Saffron Walden have admitted they may build 10,000 houses on the greenfield site instead of the 8,000 initially proposed.

The disclosure is contained in a press release posted on their website www.hanleygrange.com

Jarrow Investments Ltd also revealed they have been forced to cut the number of homes being built in the first phase to 7,000.

South Cambridgeshire Councillor Peter Topping said "It appears that some landowners have decided not to sell to the developers at this stage. "

"One of the big problems is that Jarrow Investments plans are quite sketchy and seem to be jumping around all over the place. "

"First it was 8,000 homes - now it is 7,000 homes but it might be 10,000 homes. They are making it up as they go."

"The Eco credentials of the town are also very hard to pin down.”

Uttlesford District Councillor Julie Redfern said "local Councillors have been asking serious questions about the detail of Hanley Grange and its impact on South Cambridgeshire and Uttlesford.  Too often all the developers can say is 'we are working on that' which is not good enough."

"How can we understand the impact of this huge development if Jarrow Investments have not done their research and give us numbers which are uncertain and keep moving around."
